Weekly Newsletter: September 25, 2015

Hey everyone! Hope you are having a good fall. Here are some things happening in the community over the next week.

  1. Queer, Trans, and Allied Youth Drop-In Launch – Today (September 25) at 7 pm at the Upside Teen Lounge (4636 Elk Lake Drive)
To celebrate the opening of the Queer, Trans, & Allied Youth Drop-In, we’re going to have a little get to know you event! If you are a queer, trans, or allied youth between 13 and 18 and want to meet new people, come hang out with us! Get to know everyone who’s made this drop in happen, including our youth leaders, Macayla and Courtney. If your parents, care takers, or family are interested, they are welcome to come as well. There’ll be food and general good vibes. After a bit of mingling, the adults will head out, and you’ll get to chat with Macayla and Courtney about what you want to get out of this drop in, and we’ll talk about what sort of community we want to build.
  2. Peers Block Party BBQ with The Tuesdays – Saturday, October 3rd noon- 2 pm at the PEERS Victoria Resource Society, #1-744 Fairview Rd Victoria BC V9A 5T9
Rain or Shine, EVERYONE WELCOME! Bring your kids, dogs, families, and friends! Join us for by-donation refreshments and BBQ, lovingly supplied by the Saanich Baptist Church, to help raise funds for “Rolls 4 Strolls”, a fundraising campaign for a new night outreach RV.
THE TUESDAYS are a family band which includes Peers supporter as well as 2 Peers employees! Super-fun, dancey, pop-rock cover band playing songs from the 90’s to present who don’t take themselves too seriously!
  3. Victoria Women’s Transition Centre 40 for 40 Campaign
For 40 years the Victoria Women’s Transition House has been providing emergency shelter, counselling, and supports and services to women who are fleeing domestic abuse. To mark this event, they have created the “40 for 40” campaign with the goal of raising 40,000 dollars this fall. For more information visit transitionhouse.net.
