Trans ID Clinic
November 21, 2019 @ 17:00 - 20:00
The UVic Chapter of Pro Bono Students Canada is launching Trans ID Clinic – Victoria, BC, in partnership with Island Sexual Health and the Greater Victoria Public Library. The aim of this clinic is to help trans people obtain and retain government-issued identification that correctly reflects their name and gender marker. At the clinic, volunteer law students will work alongside pro bono lawyers from Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP to help transgender individuals complete applications for federal and provincial identity documents.
Individuals who have an appointment at the clinic will be able to have any questions they may have about changing their provincial and federal documents answered by volunteer law students and lawyers. During this appointment, lawyers and law students will provide assistance with completing the required application forms — including notarizing documents where required. Individuals who make less than $20,000 per year who are seeking to update BC identification will be given assistance with requesting a fee waiver from Vital Statistics. Individuals will leave the clinic with a clear understanding of the outstanding steps they will need to take in order to complete their application.
Clinics will be offered on the following dates:
● October 28 from 5-8pm at Island Sexual Health
● November 21 from 5-8pm at the Greater Victoria Public Library (Downtown Branch)
● January 27 from 5-8pm at Island Sexual Health
● February 20 from 5-8pm at the Greater Victoria Public Library (Downtown Branch)
Clients should bring their birth certificate and any other identification they are looking to update to their clinic appointment.
Space in each clinic is limited. Individuals who are interested in registering for an appointment at the clinic can email pbsctransid@uvic.ca.
