Events Hosted Alongside the UVSS Advocacy Groups

The Student Union is home to 5 advocacy groups: The Native Students Union (NSU), Gender Empowerment Centre (GEM), Society for Students with a Disability (SSD), Students of Colour Collective (SOCC), and Pride Collective (Pride). These groups host multiple recurring events together for members of all the collectives to get to know each other.

UVSS Advocacy Groups Event Schedule

Community Potlucks

These monthly potlucks, held in the campus community garden (or in the GEM if it rains!), invite the community to get together to share food and company. Everyone is encouraged to bring something to share. Don’t forget to bring containers for leftovers!

This event is run alongside PRIDE, AVP, the UVSS Food Bank, the Campus Community Garden, SSD, UVSP, and SOCC.

Gay in the Garden

This event is hosted by PRIDE, in association with the GEM, Campus Community Garden, and CFUV. This annual event invites community members to visit the campus garden for an afternoon of vendors, food trucks, and live music! This is a great opportunity to support local artsits and businesses, and discover some local queer musicians.

International Safe Abortion Day

This event, held by the Anti-Violence Project and GEM, is a free, drop-in afternoon of education, advocacy, and socializing in honour of the global pro-choice movement. This event features various workshops, crafts, and displays, while highlighting local reproductive health resources.

Bird Safe Campus – Bird Watching Tour

Held alongside the University of Victoria Sustainability Project, this campus tour aims to bring awareness to the UVSP’s current “Bird Safe Campus” initiative. You can learn more about this initiative on their website.
